• Help the mtDNA replicate, divide, or translate DNA into proteins and make up the five complexes (or help them assemble properly) that generate the ATP (called the electron transport chain or respiratory chain; abbreviated as ETC or RC),
• Help stabilize the inner mitochondrial membrane where the respiratory chain sits
• Help import proteins or other nutrients from the cell to inside the mitochondria. 
• Therefore, it is important to be aware of these risks so that early medical advice and treatment of any illness can be started! Immediate diagnosis is IMPERATIVE
